  • New Transformers Movie - Louchen Review 6 / 10

    Realism - 10 / 10
Our Military was portrayed really well in this movie, The size of the transformers seemed on target with the cartoon, and the CGI was awesome depicting the transformers. I know they also had to update the cars and show a lot more of the metallic pieces which makes it more realistic and modern. It also took the movie transformers like 10 seconds to transform while in the cartoon it was 2-3 seconds which seems more realistic if there was real life transformers. Also they didnt have the transform sound im so used to hearing which would have been a cool edition to add.

    Voice Acting 4 / 10
The original optimus prime voice was the best voice acting you'll hear in the movie. Him explaning the autobot history and his last line in the movie was the only thing worth hearing. The rest of Voice acting from the Autobots was horrible. It was awful because they were trying to talk "ghetto", and bring in some useless comedy. Plus, even in the cartoon, there was a lot more communication among the transformers, but in this movie there was hardly any at all.

    Acting 5 / 10
I was shocked because I know Shia LaBeouf is a good actor from previously watching him which he did a fine job. And the chick too. However, trying to fit him in the story and make it into a love story really didnt move me much. I wish they would have kept Spike and his dad as the main, Human characters the autobots communicated with because they actually used vehicles and it was more dramatic that way. However, I realize our culture, that probably wouldnt have appealed to many people.

    Characters 5 / 10
They had alot of thing i did not like about the characters. Scorpinok was in Beast Wars. The Police Car was an autobot in the cartoon, decepticon in the movie. Megatron was some pussy as plane. And since the cartoon was basically 20 years old, they basically rehashed all the characters into vehicles from our generation which im sure is fine with alot of people, but I wish they would have stuck with the original cars. I prefer the cartoon transformers and the "boxy" look rather that the different black and metallic showing how the transformers would me. It would have had more of a retro feel.

    Action 8 / 10
They of course had action, however i dont think being 2hrs and 20 min long, the movie was needed that amount of time to tell the story. The action sequences with our military were just amazing. The reviews Ive read previous to seeing the movie about showing how strong our military was were absolutely correct. The battle sequences with all the transformers were pretty sweet. The only thing i think was really crappy was the fight sequence with Optimus and Megatron. They pretty much just rolled around a million times until Sam put the damn Cube into him. Atleast in the cartoon there was more action that built up several battles with Optimus and Megatron where Megatron would always flee and come back to fight again. And then They would do alot more gun fighting and in the movie there was barely any gun fighting between the two. Other than there fight, the rest of the fighting was good.

    Storyline 3 / 10
Just the thought of having a Transformers movie, you would think it would be just great regadless. However, It probably had one of the worst storylines i have ever seen. A ripoff of the AVP (Alien Vs Predator) storyline with using the artic and buried sequence. The storyline also having a huge cube / pyramid as the long lost transformer artifact and they have a soccer ball sized cube as the "energon cube" aka all spark which was a stupid ass idea. In the cartoon, they could use multiple earth resources to create energon cubes to use to get back home. which brings me to another point, in the cartoon the autobots crashed onto earth on a ship and tried repairing it while fighting the decepticons. In the movie, the decepticons were already on earth and the autobots crash landed like they were meteors. What a shitty way of transporting them. And also Instead of sticking to the roots, they changed the human characters and updated the vehicles for the transformers except starscream. I think they did that because the vehicles in the cartoon were outdated alittle and they wanted to update the characters to our generation so they used updated vehicles from present day.

    Final Review: 6 / 10
My biggest comment is this. I understand when taking a comic, book, or cartoon and making it into a movie, you have to change some elements to create a storyline or place it in present day. There has been alot of these movies within the past 10 years made and most of them have bombed because they have change some many things. Star Wars, LOTR, Harry Potter, and a few others changed some elements but those have came out very well. So from a book to a movie they came out well but cartoons or comics made into movies have done horrible because of trying to adapt to present day or they leave out some of the characters that stick out most in peoples minds. Examples of poorly done movies but classics: Masters of the Universe ( No history explained, no good guy vehicles, and left out many characters), TMNT (No Rocksteady or Bebop or Mousers, or Technodrome), Street Fighter (Vega, Van Dam as Guile was horrible, and horrible storyline), Mario Bros Movie ( nuff said), But hey have had some success with good ones such as Spiderman and Ghost Rider. Lets just hope if they made a Legend of Zelda or Thundercats movie, they stick to the cartoon version to appeal to its fan base rather that the general population.
