I just found out today one of my childhood (and adulthood)idols past away on June 15. Stan Winston was the pioneer behind the creation and visual effects of such block busters as the Terminator series, Aliens, and Jurassic Park. He was working on T4 when he passed away. Who will fill his shoes I will never guess. R.I.P. Stan the Man. :(

Before Mario Paint, Before Flash

Before I started creating Flash movies like the "Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom Series" and "Mario vs. Sonic" I was already creating smaller sprite animations long ago with another little toy.

Back in the late 80s we had this little gizmo called the The Animator, which used Etch A Sketch dials to draw digital pixels on a screen. (Ohio Art, the creator of the Etch a Sketch created it) You could animate those pixel drawings in a 12 frame animation. The limited frames of animation sucked horribly, but for me it was my first taste of the digital animation world.
Shortly after came the Animator 2000, which I first played at KB games and instantly fell in love with. This thing actually had a primitive touchscreen and sylus that allowed much more freedom over its predecessor. It also had a cartridge system with mediocre games I tried only once before realizing the animation was where this thing excelled.

After drawing on the demo a while, I pleaded with my Dad that this was my must have toy that Xmas. As Christmas was drawing near, I of course found it behind his dresser, and played with it when my parents weren't around. Then neatly packed it up and put it away. My Dad found out of course and beat my ass, but damn was it worth it to play that little gem.

The Animator 2000, along with Mario Paint for the SNES set the foundation for me getting into flash and creating the flash movies I make today.

I would love to find one in a flea market, maybe I'll look one up on ebay soon.

Top 5 Costumes We Can Do Without For Halloween 2008

With Halloween still 7 months away, I thought I'd put together a list of costumes I personally don't want to see AGAIN this year. Think of this as getting a good start on something clever together.

1. Borat
Next year if I see one more person dressed as Borat at a party I'm gonna freak out. Especially the one guy that has the balls (literally) to actually show up with Borat's infamous swimsuit. If I see that again i'm gonna give him a wedgie so high he'll be able to use it as dental floss. With "Bruno" (the flaming sexual reporter) coming out this year, expect to see that as the next Sacha Baron Cohen costume of this year. (In case you've been living under a rock Sacha Baron Cohen is the comedian/actor who plays Borat, Ali G, and Bruno.)

Possibly the worst Borat ever. Nice find on the swimsuit, but no mustache? WTF? Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. I mean noooooooooo.

2. Jack Sparrow
Sure it's always fun to be a pirate, it's the only time you can rape and pillage and get away with it right? (The Vikings did it better anyway. I know I'm Norwegian) But still, please no more Johnny Depp costumes. My sister's boyfriend was him at the first party I went to last year, but the good thing about him was he actually has real dreadlocks, so he looked pretty damn good. The next five parties had at least 3 Jack Sparrows each, with no Kraken in site unfortuately.

3. Men Dressed As Women
I have no doubt that the 25% (maybe more) of the fellas who dress up as a ugly bittys on Halloween secretly wish they could do it all the time. Putting on makeup and a dress to see what you would look like as a girl is so much fun isn't it! And no, it's not hilarious anymore after the 50th person at the party feels your balloon tits and laughs like a jack ass.

Yup guys, you exactly what he wants you to do with that poolstick.

4. Gimmicky Couple Costumes
Bolt and Nuts, Plugs and sockets, Key and Lock outfits... you know what I'm talking about. These costumes are for the artards with creativity as bad as Uwe Boll movies. They run out the hour before a Halloween party to blow $60 on a cheap ass attempt at being hilarious.

Maybe I'm just bitter at this costume because I wish I was the one sticking my bolt in the chick :(

5. Spiderman
Sorry, nobody wants to see anyone but Tobey Mcguire wearing that suit. Especially when it doesn't fit your fat ass and we have to see the wedge in your crack since the suit is so friggin' tight.

(OK so i admit this is me last year, fuck off. I should have photoshopped my tic tac pecker bulge bigger damnit.)

I'll end this list on a positive note. I would give not just my left nut, but my right as well to own the Hulk costume this fan made "Marvel Zombies Trailer" that alot of diggers have already seen.

Reading my local paper I work for today, I noticed a strange article about a cross relection appearing on the side of a house, which progressed to various areas of the residence, including a shed. Apparently no source could be found that resulted in the relection. In my opinion this is much cooler then Jesus toast!

What happened to the days of online shopping being cheap? Now-a-days people seem to make more money off of shipping then the actual product. Case in point: The I Am Legend book by Richard Matheson, which is now a movie coming out December 14th with Will Smith. The trailers for this film got me so hyped up that I just had to read the book. I went to about 5 online stores, including ebay and amazon, and imagine my surprise when I found out the shipping is even more then the damn book itself! $6-$7 to ship a used book is Ludicrous. So what did I do? Headed over to my local Target where I found the re-issue of the book for $5, after a 30% sale discount.

Back in college I bought ALL my books from half.com, and I don't recall shipping being as pricey as it is now. And don't even get me started on Video Game shipping. I sell alot of games, and know for a fact a standard DVD size game and case costs no more then $3 including the packaging. Yet most ebayers want up to $10 for shipping.

I'm going back to the old fashioned way of buying things, going to the REAL stores.

Terminator 4 Rumor/ Forum Update

First off, I just want to let you know I've contacted my forum host, woolnet.net and am waiting information on purchasing more bandwidth. I really don't want you guys to have to wait until Saturday to get back on. It turns out that this month we used twice the bandwidth of the average month. This could be because of a number of reasons, but most likely people are abusing our sig/avy privilege which lets you host your sig/avys on our server. It could have also been because someone posted an image hosted on the forums to a popular site like Digg, which as most know is a website killer. We'll be installing something that will not allow hotlinking to our images anymore so this doesn't happen again. We may scrap the hosting of images all together since this has been such a huge problem.

Anyway, in other news a huge rumor is going around that Edward Furlong will be reprising his role as John Connor in 2009's Terminator 4! I'm all for it, even though it would throw the series out of wack since both T3 and the Sarah Connor Chronicles both feature a different John Connor. I welcome this news anyway because Nick Stahl didn't sit well with me. He did a good job, but I would have prefered trouble child Furlong. We'll just have to wait and see if this is a rumor.

I just found out today that Don Herbert, aka Mr. Wizard died Tuesday. I haven't seen or even thought about the show in several years, yet am very sad. I grew up watching Nickelodeon, and along with Pinwheel and You Can't Do That On Television, Mr. Wizard's World is one of the shows I remember most. I always respected Don Herbert, and really enjoyed the show. Rest in peace sir, you were a big part of this big kid's childhood!

My personal favorite video game ending of all time is the ending to Super Mario Bros. 2. No other ending of a game sticks in my mind better then a full screen drawing of Mario in his nightcap, snoring away. When I was 12 years old that just oozed awesomeness. Of course there was more to the ending, such as the people of Subcon getting rid of a bloodied Wart, but that image of Mario will always remain in my head.

The greatest ending of all time? VGDC thinks so!

Having beat the PC version, I picked it up for PS2 hoping for tighter controls and a different playing experience. Man was I wrong. This game is almost unplayable after beating the near perfect PC version.

First off the lighting is way overdone. I have tried and tried to play with not only the games brightness and contrast, but also tried to adjust them on my tv. No luck. Lara looks like shes glowing with radioactivity almost all the time. The game is very muddy and blurry. I'm not a fan of the depth of field option, and turned it off on the PC. I found this fixed the "glowing" problem. No such option here, you have to deal with it.

One of the big reasons I got it for PS2 was for the rumble feature. But on the PS2 it just feels like an after thought. There is no vibration when she fires her guns, no vibration when the TREX comes stomping round the corner (both were previously said to happen in other posts B.S.) It only happens randomly, and in no way adds to the experience.

Also, is it just me or is this version way buggier then the PC. Lara seems to have trouble while actually raiding. Many a time I have fallen to my death simply because Lara didnt automatically grap a ledge in plain site. The same with when i run off a cliff, she should automatically grab it by turning around. I have also experienced alot of "floating". This happens when you jump for a ledge etc. and lara just raises her arms, as if in mid jump, and slowly floats in a direction for a little while.

If you have a PC that can handle TRA, stay away from the PS2 version. This was the first TR I played on a PC first, wish I had known how much better the experience was in the past.

But dont' get me wrong, if your only option is for the PS2, it's still a good game. The PC version just outshines it by a mile. And it's a steal at $30.

Growing up, one of my favorite types of games were the ones where you could become really tiny, and explore everyday objects while you were the size of a bug. Spot for the Sega Genesis was one of those games. I also always wondered what it would be like to shrink down and drive one of my Matchbox cars around the house. Make Your Tomb Raider Anniversary Demo Twice As Long!

A gamer over at the official Eidos forums created a "trainer" file that opens up new areas in the TRA Demo! All you have to do is download THIS FILE then unzip it. (As always do this at your own risk, I found no problems with it though) Follow these instructions which are in the Read Me file included with the "trainer" program:

Instructions:
1. Execute trademoexp2.exe and then TR:A demo.
2. When you get to the checkpoint just before raptors, press Ctrl+1, then Ctrl+2 and Ctrl+3.
3. Get the cog and go back to the machine. If you fall down on your way back, go to point 2 ;)

You can try using Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2 and Ctrl+3 in other locations, but it will probably result in Lara dying.

You are using this trainer at your own risk!

If you're a little confused like I was about all this, go here and scroll down a little bit to find a tutorial on how to do this. Trust me it's worth it! This trick allows you to play the entire Lost Valley level, including getting the third and last)cog. And is it ever awesome! I can't tell you how cool it is to play the level I remember from the original game, only 10x better! You'll explore the buildings surrounding the Lost Valley, and find all kinds of cool things (like huge Dinosaur nests!).

You'll even be able to access the gated area under the waterfall current that you opened with that switch at the beginning of the level. Inside you'll find this awesome relic!

So what are you waiting for, download the trainer file, and play some more TRA! If you have any questions leave a comment and I'll answer it.

Tomb Raider Demo Available, TRA Site Updated!

Click here to view the latest info from the official site. They added 12 new screenshots, 1 new wallpaper, 1 enemy render, 1 vignette video and the fourth dev diary. They added a little info to the Atalantis level as well.

As for the demo, it is now available for download. The moment I started I fell in love with the game. The nostalgic detail is astonishing. For those who remember the Lost Valley level from the original, this demo will instantly bring back memories. In the demo you have to collect the cogs from the original, only it is much more complicated. The whole gear/waterfall system from the original has been totally revamped, and is amazing to look at.

One of my favorite parts from the orginal Tomb Raider is when you find the Dead Explorer just before you enter the Lost Vally. He's the skeleton that you get a small medipack off of. In Anniversary he is hidden though, can you find him? View the pic below to see him. I wonder why there is no skull?

There's a rumor going around that George Lucas is going to announce a new theatrical Star Wars film tomorrow (the 30th Anniversary of the series). It will supposedly take place before the prequels. I'm looking forward to not only more and more DVDs, but Jar Jar in diapers!
